RealRoots helps women make meaningful friendships in their city through shared experiences. We match women who are compatible and organize amazing local experiences for them to enjoy. Dorothy and Tara founded RealRoots because we moved so many times in our own adult lives and struggled to find a group of close girlfriends to share our new city with. We both desperately needed RealRoots many times in our own lives, and we're so glad you're here!

These Terms and Conditions (the "Terms") is a contract between you and RealRoots Inc. that describes your rights, and ours, when you register for our friendship matching and events services, described above. When you register with RealRoots, whether on our website or our App, you agree to be legally bound by these Terms, so please take a moment to read them carefully.

Register an Account & Eligibility

To be matched with friends and participate in our friendship events, you will need to register an account with RealRoots, either on our website or our App. In order to create an Account you must be at least 21 years old.

Who RealRoots is for. RealRoots membership is open to all women, ages 21 and up, including cisgender and transgender women; certain LGBTQ+ groups also welcome nonbinary individuals who are 21 and up.

In addition, we cannot allow you to use another person's Account or to share your Account with any other person without permission.

You can create an Account via manual registration, or by using your social media or email login details. If you create an account using your social media login details, you authorize us to access, display, and use certain information from your social media account. For more information about profile sharing, please check out our Privacy Policy.

We think you'll love being a part of the RealRoots community, but if you choose, you may delete your Account at any time in the RealRoots app or by emailing us at info@therealroots.com. Your information will be treated in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

We reserve the right at our sole discretion to restrict, terminate, delete or suspend your Account, or make use of any operational, technological, or legal or other means available to enforce the Terms (including without limitation blocking specific IP addresses), at any time without liability or without prior notice given to you.

Memberships, Fees & Automatic Enrollment

What we offer. RealRoots offers: (a) a Meet & Greet event; (b) an annual membership that begins with a series of curated weekly experiences with your matched group and includes twelve (12) months of access to member events, community 1:1 matches, IRL clubs in select cities, and the members-only forum; (c) a standalone club-only membership; (d) some standalone event tickets.

Fees. Current fees are: annual membership — $289; club-only membership — $49 per quarter. Meet & Greet and club ticket prices are shown at checkout. Meet & Greet tickets are in U.S. dollars. We may change our fees from time to time; a change applies to Meet & Greet and club ticket prices and to new membership purchases going forward, and does not increase the renewal price of a membership you have already purchased.

Automatic enrollment after a Meet & Greet. Within forty-eight (48) hours after your Meet & Greet, you will be automatically enrolled in an annual RealRoots membership and the payment method you provide will be charged the then-current membership fee (currently $289), unless you opt out through the App during that 48-hour window. We will send you at least one reminder before you are charged. As a courtesy to your group, opt-out is available only after your Meet & Greet event has taken place.

Authorization to charge. By providing a payment method, you authorize RealRoots and its third-party payment processors to charge that payment method for the membership fee and any other amounts you agree to. If you were charged because you did not opt out within the 48-hour window, see "Cancellations, Refunds & Rescheduling" below.

Membership term and renewal. Your annual membership runs for twelve (12) months from the date of purchase and renews automatically one year after purchase, and on each anniversary thereafter, at $289 per year, unless you cancel. Your club-only membership runs quarter to quarter and renews automatically every quarter at $49, unless you cancel. See "Cancellations, Refunds & Rescheduling" below for what happens when you cancel.

Payment plans. At checkout you may be offered the option to pay over time through a third-party provider (for example, Klarna or Afterpay). Those payments are governed by the provider's own terms and conditions, and RealRoots is not responsible for the provider's services, fees, or decisions.

Gift cards. Gift cards may be redeemed toward a Meet & Greet, series membership, or club purchase by entering the gift card number in the promo code box at checkout. Only one code may be applied to a purchase, so gift cards cannot be combined with other promo codes. RealRoots gift cards are issued digitally; they do not expire, and we do not charge service, dormancy, or inactivity fees. Where required by law we will redeem a remaining balance for cash on request — in California, for balances under $15. Because our gift cards are digital, we cannot replace a gift card that is lost, stolen, or shared, and we are not responsible for use by anyone who obtains your gift card number, so please keep it secure. Gift cards are not reloadable, may not be resold, and have no value except as redeemed through RealRoots or as required by applicable law. We may decline to honor any gift card we reasonably believe was obtained fraudulently or used in violation of these Terms.

Cancellations, Refunds & Rescheduling

Meet & Greet tickets. Meet & Greet tickets are nonrefundable. We are happy to reschedule you to a future Meet & Greet date at no cost.

Club tickets. One-time club tickets are nonrefundable. We are happy to reschedule you to a future club date at no cost.

Access after you cancel. You can cancel your membership at any time. When you cancel, your membership will not renew, but you will keep access to your membership and its benefits for the remainder of your current membership term — that is, until your period end date. Cancelling stops future renewals; it does not shorten the term you have already paid for and, except as described below, does not entitle you to a refund of the current term.

If you were charged after forgetting to opt out. If you were charged for membership because you did not opt out within the 48-hour window following your Meet & Greet, you may email us at info@therealroots.com to request a refund. We review these requests on a case-by-case basis, and requests for a refund after missing the opt-out deadline may not be granted.

Membership — before the third series meeting. If you decide your membership is no longer a fit after attending no more than 3 series events, we will offer you either (a) a free rematch to another group within six (6) months, or (b) a refund of your membership fee minus a $100 cancellation fee. The cancellation fee covers our costs for matching, staffing your guide, and organizing the series for your group. To request either option, email us at info@therealroots.com; refunds and rematches are handled by our team by email and are not available in the App.

If you choose the refund, your membership and access will end when the refund is issued (rather than continuing until your renewal date).

Membership — after the third series meeting. If you have attended more than 3 series events, we can still move you to another group within six (6) months, but the membership fee is no longer refundable. If you cancel, you will keep access to your membership until your renewal date as described above.

Missed experiences. We do not provide refunds or credits for experiences you miss. The program is priced with the expectation that participants may miss one or two experiences.

How to cancel; how refunds are handled. You can cancel your membership at any time in the App (tap Community, then view your benefits, then Account). Cancelling in the App stops your membership from renewing and keeps your access until your renewal date. Refunds are not requested or processed in the App. If you are eligible for a refund under this section, email us at info@therealroots.com and our team will process it.

The RealRoots Guarantee

We guarantee that you will make at least one meaningful connection that you're excited to see after the program, or we will rematch you to another series for free. This offer is good for up to six (6) months after the conclusion of your series group, and for up to two (2) free rematches.

Relationship to the disclaimers below. This guarantee, together with the refund rights described in "Cancellations, Refunds & Rescheduling" above, are express remedies that RealRoots offers you, and they apply notwithstanding the warranty disclaimers and the limitation of liability set out below. Except for these express remedies, and to the fullest extent permitted by law, the App, Site, and services are provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis.

Guides & Events

RealRoots experiences and club meetings are led by RealRoots guides, who facilitate the activity and the guided conversation. Guides are independent contractors and are not employees of RealRoots. As described in "Background Checks and Release of Claims" below, RealRoots does not control what members or guides say or do in person.

Guests & Plus-Ones

You may invite a guest to a Meet & Greet by adding them as a plus-one in the App. Guests must meet the same eligibility requirements as members. To attend membership experiences beyond the Meet & Greet, your guest will need to enroll as a member.

Online and Offline Content and Behavior

There are 3 types of content that you will be able to access when you register with RealRoots:

  1. content that you input and provide, including on our social media accounts ("Your Content");
  2. content that other RealRoots members provide ("Member Content"); and
  3. content that RealRoots provides ("Our Content").

And, of course, should you choose to participate in RealRoots in-person experiences (which we highly encourage!) you will be meeting other members face-to-face. That being said, while RealRoots is based on making authentic connections based on individuals' honest expression of themselves as much as possible, there are certain types of content, and behavior, that are prohibited as strictly against our values and these Terms. Those include, but are not limited to, behaviors and content which:

  1. contain language or imagery which could be deemed offensive or is likely to harass, upset, embarrass, alarm or annoy any other person (including, without limitation, language that could be deemed discriminatory towards an individual's race, color, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender expression, gender identity or physical appearance);
  2. is obscene, pornographic, or may otherwise offend human dignity;
  3. is abusive, insulting, or threatening, discriminatory or promotes or encourages racism, sexism, hatred or bigotry;
  4. encourages any illegal activity;
  5. is defamatory or libelous;
  6. relates to commercial activity (including, without limitation, sales, competitions and advertising, links to other websites).

While we want members to be able to get to know each other in order to form authentic (and lasting!) friendships, please remember that the purpose of RealRoots is to connect women with similar individuals where they live for the purpose of socializing, and not commercial gain.

Background Checks and Release of Claims

We do not control any of the things our members say or do in-person.

YOU UNDERSTAND THAT REALROOTS DOES NOT CURRENTLY CONDUCT CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS ON ITS MEMBERS. REALROOTS ALSO DOES NOT INQUIRE INTO THE BACKGROUNDS OF ITS MEMBERS OR ATTEMPT TO VERIFY THE STATEMENTS OR IDENTITY OF ITS MEMBERS. REALROOTS MAKES NO REPRESENTATIONS OR WARRANTIES AS TO THE CONDUCT OF ANY OF ITS MEMBERS OR THEIR COMPATIBILITY WITH ANY CURRENT OR FUTURE MEMBERS.

You agree to, and hereby do, release RealRoots and its successors from any claims, demands, losses, damages, rights, and actions of any kind, including personal injuries, emotional distress, death and property damage, that either directly or indirectly arises from your interactions with, or conduct of other members, or participation in RealRoots events. If you are a California Resident, you hereby waive California Civil Code Section 1542, which states, "A general release does not extend to claims that the creditor or releasing party does not know or suspect to exist in his or her favor at the time of executing the release and that, if known by him or her, would have materially affected his or her settlement with the debtor or released party."

Limitation of Liability

Except for the express RealRoots Guarantee and the refund rights set out above, which are your exclusive remedies for the matters they cover:

You assume the risk of damages, of any kind, when you: use our services, participate in our in-person meet-ups and events, as well as when you use our App or website.

IN NO EVENT WILL THE REALROOTS INC., ITS AFFILIATES, EMPLOYEES, LICENSORS, OR SERVICE PROVIDERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES, DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, SPECIAL, OR PUNITIVE, INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, LOSS OF DATA, INCOME, PROFIT OR GOODWILL, LOSS OF OR DAMAGE TO PROPERTY AND CLAIMS OF THIRD PARTIES ARISING OUT OF YOUR ACCESS TO OR USE OF THE APP, SITE, OR PARTICIPATION IN REALROOTS EVENTS, HOWEVER CAUSED, WHETHER BASED ON BREACH OF CONTRACT, TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE), PROPRIETARY RIGHTS INFRINGEMENT, PRODUCT LIABILITY OR OTHERWISE.

THE FOREGOING SHALL APPLY EVEN IF WE WERE ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. IF YOU BECOME DISSATISFIED IN ANY WAY WITH THE REALROOTS' SERVICES, INCLUDING YOUR EXPERIENCE AT OUR GUIDED EVENTS, YOUR SOLE AND EXCLUSIVE REMEDY IS TO STOP YOUR USE OF THE APP AND SITE.

YOU HEREBY WAIVE ANY AND ALL CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THE APP OR SITE, AS WELL AS YOUR PARTICIPATION IN OUR EVENTS. BECAUSE SOME STATES DO NOT ALLOW THE DISCLAIMER OF IMPLIED WARRANTIES OR THE EXCLUSION OR LIMITATION OF CERTAIN TYPES OF DAMAGES, THESE PROVISIONS MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU. IF ANY PORTION OF THIS LIMITATION ON LIABILITY IS FOUND TO BE INVALID OR UNENFORCEABLE FOR ANY REASON, THEN OUR AGGREGATE LIABILITY SHALL NOT EXCEED THE PRICE WE CHARGE YOU TO PARTICIPATE IN OUR EVENTS.

THE LIMITATION OF LIABILITY HEREIN IS A FUNDAMENTAL ELEMENT OF THE BASIS OF THE BARGAIN AND REFLECTS A FAIR ALLOCATION OF RISK. THE APP, SITE AND SERVICES WOULD NOT BE PROVIDED WITHOUT SUCH LIMITATIONS AND YOU AGREE THAT THE LIMITATIONS AND EXCLUSIONS OF LIABILITY, DISCLAIMERS AND EXCLUSIVE REMEDIES SPECIFIED HEREIN WILL SURVIVE EVEN IF FOUND TO HAVE FAILED IN THEIR ESSENTIAL PURPOSE. THE FOREGOING DOES NOT APPLY TO LIABILITY ARISING FROM ANY FRAUD OR FRAUDULENT MISREPRESENTATIONS, OR ANY OTHER LIABILITY THAT CANNOT BE LIMITED BY APPLICABLE LAW.

Indemnity

You are responsible for your conduct at our in-person events. Therefore, you agree to indemnify, defend, release, and hold us, and our partners, licensors, affiliates, contractors, officers, directors, employees, representatives and agents, harmless, from and against any third party claims, damages (actual and/or consequential), actions, proceedings, demands, losses, liabilities, costs and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) suffered or reasonably incurred by us arising as a result of, or in connection with:

  1. any negligent acts, omissions or willful misconduct by you;
  2. your access to and use of the App;
  3. the uploading or submission of Content to the App by you;
  4. any breach of these Terms by you; and/or
  5. your violation of any law or of any rights of any third party.

We retain the exclusive right to settle, compromise and pay any and all claims or causes of action which are brought against us without your prior consent.

Dispute Resolution

These Terms require you to first informally, and then, if a resolution cannot be reached, formally mediate disputes with the RealRoots Inc. and limits the manner in which you seek relief from us.

Survival of Terms

All provisions of these Terms, which by their nature should survive, shall survive termination of these Terms (which shall occur when you, or we, in our sole discretion, terminate your Account), including, without limitation, the Dispute Resolution Agreement, warranty disclaimers and limitation of liability.

Miscellaneous

These Terms are governed by the State of California. These Terms represent the entire agreement between you and the RealRoots Inc. with respect to the use of our services, as described above, and include, without limitation, the Memberships, Fees & Automatic Enrollment section, the Cancellations, Refunds & Rescheduling section, the RealRoots Guarantee, and any applicable provisions in our Privacy Policy, our End User License Agreement, and our Website Terms of Use Policy.

Conflicts. If there is any conflict between these Terms and our FAQ, marketing materials, or other informational content, these Terms control.

Lastly, we reserve the right to update these Terms, from time to time.
